John Dies at the End

John Dies at the End is written by David Wong. He wrote a sequel to the book called This Book is Full of Spiders introducing a new plot but keeping the characters from the first book. His books are well written and hard to put down.

John dies at the End is about a man named David and his best friend John who live in a small city in the middle of the Midwest. One night after a party David gets a call from his buddy John who in panicking about something being in his apartment. Early in the night John had gone back to the party and took a type of drug called Soy-Sauce that looks like it is alive. David accidently gets the sauce in his system and now he can see all of these monsters and other things that no one else can. John convinces David to do “cases” that people have for them, basically they are the zombie version of Ghostbusters. There is a trend with their cases in that the monsters keep talking about something called Korrok. David and John get kidnaped and end up in an alternate universe where the people living there are more advanced with the help of their leader, Korrok who is just a super computer, who was also the one sending the monsters after the two. David and John destroy the computer and escape back to Earth closing the portal that allowed the two worlds to travel back and forth.

This story is one of my new favorites. It is filled with so much sarcasm and subtle humor, it is so good. It has an almost zombieish feel to it but without all the end of the world drama that is included in those books. If you are a person who likes the comedy of a middle school boy mixed with a little bit of gore then you should definitely read this book. You won’t be able to put it down.
