The Giver

This trimester i am reading The Giver by Lois Lowry. Lois Lowry had wrote some of the most famous book out there for example Number the Stars in 1990 l. The Giver and Number the Stars both won the Newbery Medal in 1990 and 1994. Lois Lowry is best known as a children's writer. She wrote over 30 children's book now back to the book The Giver is a scientific fiction book or a young adult fiction book.

Jonas is a 12 year old boy who lives in a small community that isolate itself from other places. The residents signed rolls by their elders base on their personal strength. Mainly the residents are assigned as doctors or even a cook. In his community it is rare to see people differently from each other. Everyone is supposedly the same. Jonas lives with his mom and dad and sisters. His mom works for the government and known as an official in the Department of Justices or a lawyer. When that day came for him to get signed to a job he was scare. Normally they would signed jobs with the ages of the students. As they announce students jobs one by one Jonas was last to be announced. As he looked scare he now was finally announce but not like any other jobs he was assigned as the next Giver or Receiver of Memory. This was rare for his community. It wasn't something normal. Going toward on the stories The Giver hold all memories of all the community. He knows all about the history and only have access to it. The receiver have the memory of all the residents and nows its histories. The former Giver was getting old and as he ages someone had to replace him and here is where Jonas comes in. He was the next Giver. As they start transferring the memories Jonas had to face the reality of the community and to government. He now knows all that no one else in the community does. Jonas see and hear all that no one else knows. Jonas needed to something about it and had to face the challenges of facing the government and helping out the other citizen.

I really do recommend this book if you're a scientific fiction lover because it brings you into a whole new world and knowing how detail it is  and with a lot of drama. It brings you this sort of curiosity and feels like you're in the book. I absolutely love this book because it brings me into the book and gives me this really mysterious vibe to it. It's a really good book and I really do recommend you to read it.

The Giver

The title of my book is The Giver. The author is Lois Lowry.  Other books she has written include Messenger and Gossamer. I have not had the opportunity to read them. The genre is realistic-fiction

The Giver is based in a perfect world, one without pain, nor war, nor fear. The main character is a boy named Jonas, who is picked to be the new receiver,a revered job in his village. The receiver holds ever memory for the village , both good and bad. The receiver takes every memory ,some from many years ago to provide wisdom to its people and protect them from unnecessary pain. “You will be trained to be our next receiver of memory. We thank you for your childhood”.Jonas abandons his power in order to save the life of a innocent child.

This is an amazing book for anyone who just likes to read books. A couple of reasons to read this book are one because it cool view on the human mind  and two because it shows that human behavior will break all expectations.

The Giver

The title of this book is “The Giver” by Lois Lowery. Lois Lowery is the author of over twenty books for young adults and has received countless honors for her books. The book the giver is the most popular book in the quartet series. “The Giver” is written from the point of view of an eleven year old boy named Jonas living in a society that has eliminated all feelings and color from the people. In the society people cannot choose anything. There are certain things that people gain in their younger ages. At age 12 the boy/girl receives a task. When they receive this task they go through training in order to be the holder of the job. There are a couple different themes in the Giver, the main ones being death, and coming of age. Death is a big role in the community because the elderly are the most important people. When they released or in other words pass away, an event is held to honor that person. Coming of age is an important theme because nothing is very important until you are 12 years old. When you turn 12, you receive a task which you will have until you are unable to work. Coming to the age of 12 is the most important thing that will happen to you in your life.

“The giver” is about a boy named Jonas who is an eleven. Jonas is nervous about becoming a twelve because he doesn’t have any idea of what task he will be assigned. When the day comes where he will be given his task, his name isn’t called. Every other twelve has been assigned a task besides him. After all the twelve’s are given their tasks, Jonas’s name is called and he walks to the stage. The task he is given is the “receiver of memory” an honorable task. He is to receive memories and feelings from the past years and when his time comes he shall pass these memories on to another receiver. Jonas receives feelings like pain and love. Along with this Jonas begins to see color, which nobody else in the community is able to see besides the previous receiver which now is losing that ability. Jonas learns many things that he never knew before including things about his community which frighten and anger him. Jonas doesn’t understand many things and would like to see them change. “The bright orange of pumpkins being trucked in from the agricultural fields beyond the community boundary-seen in an instant, the flash of brilliant color, but gone again returning to their flat and hueless shade”. This quote intrigues me because it is when Jonas can start to see color. He can’t hold the color there but I think the fact that he has gained this ability is fascinating. Jonas never really understood what being “released” meant but when he finds out that it means that the person will die, he feels like he has been lied to. There is a child Gabe who is to be released. Jonas thinks that meant that Gabe will be transferred to another community but after he found out what being released really meant, he is determined to save Gabe but the task awaits where he is to be tested.

I love this book and I look forward to reading the sequels. This book is very interesting and it makes me want to keep reading. The different way of living that these people go through without realizing that there is more than what the eye can see, fascinates me. Everyone should read this book because it’s a book that shows a different way of living and it is a very adventurous and daring book in my opinion.
