Horse Fantastic is like a
storybook of horses. It was put together by Martin Greenburg and Rosalind
Greenburg. They have other books that are storybook in content. Horse Fantastic
comprises of 17 stories, short and long and all interesting in their own right.
For example in “Silverdown’s Gold” a mere servant boy thought to be retarted,
accidentally magically binds the estates prize stallion. The stories range from
happy stories like “Wings” to dark ones like “Satan’s Promise”.
The stories while some were
rather strange like “The Czechoslovakian Pigeon Farmer And the Pony That wasn’t
A Paint” where the farmer is trying to sell an overpriced pony. The stories can
be cheerful one second and then be about “promises to Satan” the next. Each
story keeps you on your toes and makes you want to read more. Some of the
stories are modern, in huge stables or big cities, while others are magical and
seem like they are from the medieval age with high ranking lords and ladies.
It’s a good book, although it
could use more stories, more to keep you thinking about the next one. Overall,
personally I like it, but wouldn’t recommend it for someone who isn’t into
horses. Or if the reader wants an action book they should look elsewhere, this
book doesn’t have much of it. All of the stories are interesting and well
written by their respective writer.
