A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
This author also has written Dying of the Light, Windhaven, TheArmageddon Rag, and Dead Man’s Hand. This book has a third person singular like
format, only the person who you “see” changes each chapter. These characters
are Tyrion, Jon, Eddard, Catelyn, Bran, Arya, Sansa, and Daenerys.
This book is about people in a country called the seven
kingdoms. The book does not take place on earth, but it’s an earth like place,
like in lord of the rings. In this world summers will last decades and brutal
winters will last lifetimes. One of the main conflicts that happen in this
story is that the Lannisters and the Starks fight a war, along with the Tullys
and Baratheons. In this story there are the walking dead, sorcerers, kings,
queens, lords, and ladies. There are many different houses (powerful families)
that live in the seven kingdoms. In fact, the seven kingdoms used to be seven
different countries until Aegon the conqueror united them as one country. Let’s
just say that these different houses have “quarrels”, and terror rages across
the seven kingdoms as these lords and ladies play their game of thrones.
I enjoyed this book very much. I’ve heard that there’s a
show based off it, and I am very encouraged to watch it after reading this
book. I like this book because it’s full of action, plot twists, suspense, and
even a little bit of horror when Jon encounters the walking dead. Also this
book is just the first in a long series, and I expect every sequel to be just
as good if not better.
