The book I read was Keep Holding On by Susane Colasanti. She
has also written other books such as; Take Me There, So Much Closer, and Something
like Fate. These books are very similar in plot and reasoning, there is always
someone over coning a challenge and facing problems they couldn’t on their own.
In this story, Noelle Wexler, is your average teen in high school. She faces
everyday hardships with her mother, but when she hits her breaking point then
she decides to stop putting up with all of the bullying.
Noelle is counting down the days until she is out of school
for good. She’s having lots of guy problems with her boyfriend, Matt Brennan,
won’t go out with her in public, but also there’s another really cute, sweet
guy who has an eye on her and she returned the favor. Her best friend Sherae
doesn’t like him at all but she’s there for Noelle all the way. Eventually all
the bullying, from a girl named Carly, pushes a friend of Noelle’s so far that
she does something that changes the view of the world to her. Her mother on the
other hand just doesn’t care and never pays attention. She complained so much
to Noelle that eventually she hit her breaking point and boiled over with
anger, pain, frustration, and care. And at school she stood up for herself and
went face to face with Carly to put a stop to her rampage. Then her mother
eventually sees that something is wrong and convinced that she is known for not
taking care of Noelle, just neglecting her. In the end she is now stronger than
ever more connected with her no and still holding on to her crush after every
painful sting she got from Matt.
I recommend this book because it’s inspiring and also shows
the effects on bullying in high schools. It leaves you wanting to cry through
her story and live her life in her footsteps. By holding on to friends and a
dream anything is possible even in the toughest of situations. Never giving up
and having great people behind her, kept her pushing through until the very end
of the last sentences.
