The Rescuers

The Rescuers is nothing like Anne Schraff’s other books.

Days to the mall had always been fun for Chelsea, but this day was very different. Heading down the road, Chelsea and her brother notice a man holding a bloody animal. Having no idea who he was or what he was holding, Jaris stopped the car and asked the man what he had been up to. The man walks toward the car, “Shadrach, Shadrach the opossum rescuer.”

The Rescuers happens to be about a teen girl and group of friends wanting to help Shadrach protect and save opossums that have gotten hit. Helping one of many opossums, they find one that is similar but different, Magic. Magic getting better and better each day made him get closer to having to be set back into the wild. Chelsea loving animals like she did, made her always watch the road. Sereeta, Jaris’ girlfriend, Jaris, and Chelsea were headed to the mall another day and Chelsea noticed another opossum and surely wanted to help it. Jaris, stopping the car, Chelsea ran to it and noticed that it wasn’t just an opossum, but it was Magic.

Other than not being able to understand all the characters and what the loved most about animals most, this story is recommended for anyone who is an animal lover and loves being involved. The title gives the story one meaning but once you read it you understand that you don’t have to save a humans life to be a rescuer.
