The Skin I'm In by Sharon G. Flake

This book is about a poor little 7th grader Maleeka Madison dark skinned, tall, skinny with low self-esteem, it was hard for her trying to blend into the right group trying to make friends in school without not trying to get bullied every single day, it all started when her father died. Her mother sews her clothes to not think about the death that had happened. Sometimes she will do this girl names Clar the most popular girl in school homework and she will return the favor in clothes so she will feel better in clothes that everybody is wearing. One day walking home from Char’s she had gotten bullied and raped by three boys she was too ashamed to tell her mother.


Somebody who impresses Maleeka is her new teacher Mrs. Saunders she sees the intelligence in her and give her more advanced stuff for exercise skills. The more that Mrs. Saunders helps her and builds her self- confidence up helps her not to think about her father or all the other kids giving her a rough time. At the end Char blamed a fire on Maleeka but Char got expelled for it and Maleeka and Caleb  are back together and also maintaining a good relationship more like friendship with her teacher Mrs. Saunders
