The first character it talks about is Michigan States star
point guard Malcom McBride, who has had a rough life who lives in the Brewster
Douglas houses the worst area in Michigan, before he went to college his sister
dies from a drive by shooting and gets a tattoo of her on his arm without his
parents knowing since he is too young to get one without parental permission
and is a tough street baller who doesn’t make friends easy, but when the MSU
basketball coach pays him a visit he decides to play basketball for them then
go to the NBA after one year of college ball earning him the nickname of
one-n-done.
The second character is the Croation Roko Bacic who came
from Croatia when they are in war. He learned to play basketball from his uncle
who showed him videos of Michael Jordan. One day his uncle he had found out was
murdered by a gang in Croatia. He came to the United States and made it on to
the Troy basketball team.
Throughout the story it tells about the small battles that
all the players go through and then leads up to the biggest battle their final
four game where the two teams face off in a historic battle to advance to the
final round. Malcom throughout the story is stubborn and a selfish teammate
that doesn’t care about anything other than himself, his family and winning.
The game goes to four overtimes and all the players are going through a lot not
just in the game but also in their personal lives. Towards the end of the book
Malcom is in an interview and shows his new tattoo that says Spartans forever
in the Trojan War. Also it shows all the
emotion and is so realistic.
