Eragon

The book I just finishes reading is Eragon by Christopher Paolini. He has written the books Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr (fire), and Inheritance. All these books are in the same series. I’m currently reading the book Eldest and I already like it better than Eragon. In the book Eragon there is a farmer boy named Eragon and he finds a blue stone in the Spine (a place of darkness). The stone turns out to be a dragon egg. The dragon hatches and Eragon becomes a Dragon Rider. The theme of the story is everyone has dark secrets. This is the theme because Eragon’s mentor, Brom, has many, many dark secrets.

After the Dragon Hatches Eragon names her Saphira. Eragon, Brom, and Saphira have to leave Carvahall, Eragon’s home, because the Ra’zac (strange creatures) want to kill them and take Saphira. The 3rd town Eragon, Brom, and Saphira go to is Yazuac in hope of getting food and supplies. All they find is men, women, and children slaughtered by Urgals in a huge pile of bodies. Urgals are Human like creatures with gray skin, thick arms, and bowed legs. While they are there they run into Urgals and Eragon kills two of them with magic. That is the first time he has used magic. After Eragon recovers they make their way to Teirm. Teirm is where one of Brom’s good friends lives. When they leave Teirm they decide to go to the Varden (people who are fighting the evil king and Empire), and help them fight. Not long before they are half way to reaching the Varden trouble befalls on Eragon and Brom. Read the book and find out what happens.

This is a really good book. People who are in 7th grade and older will enjoy this book. WARNING: Not for young children/young minds. The only bad thing about this book is there are sayings in different languages. Some are defined in the book but for others you have to go to the back and look them up. So your go from the back to where you left off a lot but it’s worth it. Other than that it is one of the best books I’ve read. Read it for yourself if you don’t believe me. If you’ve seen the movie then you should definitely read the book because the movie is wrong about a lot of things.

Eragon

Eragon is written by Christopher Paolini and the author has completed a four book series including Eragon. The books are as follows, Eragon, Eldest, Brisinger, and Inheritance. My personal opinion is he is an awesome writer. While yes the books can be long and at some points boring, what draws the readers the most are the bonds that Eragon makes throughout his journey. Eragon started off a simple farm boy and become the last free Dragon rider. His future is a long and difficult one, riddles with deceit and grief, but if he fails the fates of Alagaesia’s people will be forever darkened by the high king’s shadow. He is not alone in his journey, though, he will make many friends who would lay down their life for him. But one thing is clear if things are hard keep moving forward there’s going to be a light at the end of the tunnel even if you have to fight to get there.

Eragon is about a boy who becomes a man, and rise to his statin as the last free Dragon rider. Alegaesia, where the story takes place is rules by the iron fist of King Galbatorix. Eragon is a farm boy living in a secluded village called Carvahal when he comes across a mysterious blue stone. The stone turns out to be a dragon egg and his journey along with his dragons truly begins as Eragon and the story teller Brom race to escape the Empire’s soldiers. “The songs of the dead are the lamentations of the living” (Paolini 1). Eragon is forced to join a rebel group called the Varden, they aim to bring Galbatorix down from his throne and appoint another, better ruler. Eragon’s biggest enemy is Durza, a Shade, a being made when a magician is overpowered by dark spirits.

I love these kinds of books, its medieval themed as the people fight with long swords and shields along with magic, elves and dwarves. I you aren’t into fantasy where there are long and often times bloody battles, then I wouldn’t recommend this book for you. The author incorporates the use of magic and massive battles over huge battle field really well. He also shows the growing relationship of Eragon and his Dragon. If you love action and big fights and things like that then this series is for you.
