Monster

The author has written over sixty award winning books. The book Monster has been chosen as his most popular book by far.  Walter Myers books are written of African American youth and the trouble that the characters have gotten into, and the struggles they had to prove their innocence.

Monster is about an African American sixteen year old boy who lived in Harlem. Steve Harmon is the main character in the story. The story tells about a kid who was accused of murdering the owner of a drugstore. Acquaintances of Steve got him into several conflicts including putting him in jail. Steve tried proving his innocence; Steve was determined to prove his innocence regardless of what the acquaintances were saying about him. His film teacher was very inspirational to his testimony believing that he was innocent and helping him proving it through the trial.  During Steve’s trial he takes notes about what is happening while in jail and during his trial, and he hopes to make a film about the struggles he had suffered with his notes. In his notes he writes his notes in scrip form so that it sounds and looks like a movie/ film theme; so if gives off the characters interest in filming.

I recommend this book because it shows that if you believe in yourself and you are innocent and you try hard enough that you can achieve your goal, through all the struggles and rough times, you can make it. Also I recommend this book because it goes through step by step of a struggling teenager and it changes people’s views on different things, it’s also exciting to see what goes on during the trail and keeps the suspense of if he’s guilty or not.  What make this book so good is all the pros and cons of the trail and in Steve’s live.  This book is different from all the books I have read in the past, this book has character, like it’s not just a narrator saying what’s going on all the time, it’s as if Steve is telling the story and it makes you want to keep reading.
