In the book "The Skin I'm In" by Sharon G. Flake
there is a girl by the name of Maleeka Madison. She is in the seventh
grade at McClenton middle school. In this book, Maleeka has a very low
self-esteem. Maleeka is continuously getting teased by the other girls and boys
at her school. The other kids are always laughing and making fun of Maleeka
because of the color of her skin. But at the end of the book Maleeka learns how
to love herself for who she is and who she has become.
This book really talks about how Maleeka gets teased at
school all the time and how kids at her school always laugh at the color of her
skin. Maleeka soon starts to underestimate herself and starts downing herself
and starts thinking that she isn't beautiful. But then a new English teacher
comes along and teaches her how to love who she is, and love herself. The
teacher is always telling Maleeka to accept who she is and never worry about
what the other kids say about her.
This book has really taught me to love who I am and
never change for anyone. I am who I am and that's what makes me so
unique. I recommend this book to anyone who is willing to take time
out and it. This book teaches you how to never change for
anyone and it gets down into talking about having self-
esteem. I really enjoyed reading this book.
