The book I read is “Fire From The Rock” by Sharon M. Draper,
another book she wrote is “ Forged By Fire” and her other books compare to the
one I read because they're always about modern days and how kids handle what's
going on around them, I really can relate to a lot of her books. This book
theme of this book is about racism and integrating schools.
“Fire From the Rock” is about how people in Little Rock are
handling racism and their schools having to integrate, Sylvia Faye Patterson
was one of the people that was asked to integrate Central High School in the
fall, but it was her brother Gary who wanted to go not her. Sylvia like
the school she go to and the people she was surrounded by. The important characters
are Sylvia, Donna jean, Gary and Mr and Mrs.Patterson. The conflict of this
story is that racism is really huge still and now they are trying to integrate
the schools. “Stick with your own kind, girl. Mixing the races will only get
you hurt. They don't want you then. You hear?”
I really liked this book because it showed how it really was
and what they had to go through, and the author used a lot of imagery and I
felt like I was there with them she really did a nice job of describing it. The
author was trying to target black youth and educating them through and
entertaining way. I really think you guys should read this book immediately is
so interesting I didn't want to put it down. God get this book now!
