Mockingbird

I just finished the fascinating and interesting novel, Mockingbird, by Kathryn Erskine, an award winner author who has also written other novels such as Quaking, The Badger Knight, and Seeing Red. She writes stories that anyone can relate to. Whether it be from a childlike point of view, or an adult point of view.

Our story stars Caitlyn Smith, an 11 year old girl who doesn't seem to "Get It". She has Asperger's Syndrome, and has a difficult time in school. Especially with her brother, who died in a tragic incident. With bullying, problems with her father's relationship, and an empty piece to her family, she still believes that there is a way to find closure. Not only for herself, but for her whole school and neighborhood.

I found this novel to be very pleasing and enjoyable. I thought it was entertaining, and showed us that we all have a playful point of view to certain things and situations, even when things get to be a little tough, and we don't seem to "Get It". I would recommend this novel for pre-teen and up, due to situations and sad incidents that many students younger, wouldn't understand. Besides that, I would recommend this book. Such a good read. Read Mockingbird, and join Caitlyn, on her difficult journey to find closure and happiness.
