Coraline

Neil Gaiman has written several award winning books, including Coraline. Some other books include “Odd the Frost Giants” and “TheWolves in the Walls”. Neil Gaiman’s message in Coraline was that you should appreciate what you have, and not constantly wish for something else. Coraline wished for a different world full of amazing, new things. But she soon realized that she loved her old life and wanted it back.

When Coraline moves into her new house, she’s very unhappy. It’s in the middle of nowhere, and there’s absolutely nothing to do. One night, Coraline dreams that the little door in her living room leads her to an almost identical world. There’s only one difference; it’s perfect. There’s delicious food, clothes, and games.  Everything is better in this imaginary dream of hers. The neighbors are full of exciting tricks to show her, and her parents are enthusiastic about playing with her. This whole fantasy is created by something called her “other mother” and “other father”. These characters are people who look identical to her real parents, except they have buttons for eyes. The other mother manipulates Coraline and tries to convince her that her real parents don’t love her and that she should stay in this world forever.

”Coraline” is an amazing book full of descriptive detail putting you right there with her. Each character is fully developed and has the perfect place in the story. Neil Gaiman made each character have something to do with everything, and kept you on your toes. Coraline herself is the bravest, corkiest, and most interesting girl that has ever been written about. The creepy, adventurous, creative story captures the real meaning of family and its values. Coraline is a must read and a book you can’t put down.
