Gathering Blue

Lois Lowry’s “Gathering Blue” is not a sequel, but a companion book to Lowry’s book “The Giver”. Although the two are companion books, there are only vague clues throughout the book that says they relate. “Gathering Blue” is a story of loss, lies, and working hard to find the truth.

In “Gathering Blue” Kira is left as an orphan as her mom dies of an unexpected death. The women of the village, especially Vandara wants Kira gone to take her land. In the end the court decides to use Kira’s talents for weaving. Kira’s life is going in the right direction thanks to Councilman Jamison, or so she thinks. With the help of Kira’s friends Matt and Thomas, Kira finds somebody she thought she had lost forever.

“Gathering Blue” is a phenomenally written book that keeps readers clinging on for more. This book is full of excitement and courage. If you want a good read, with excitement on every page “Gathering Blue” is the book for you.
