The Hobbit

The title of the book I read was The Hobbit. The author of The Hobbit is J.R.R Tolkien. J.R.R Tolkien has written many other books including The Lord of the Rings saga and The Silmarillion. The Hobbit is as well the prequel to The Lord of the Rings saga. This book is about a group of dwarves who go on a journey to take back their home land, with a little help from a powerful wizard and a little hobbit. The theme of this story is never give up on each other because if they hope of completing this journey then they are not able to give each other up.

This story is about a little hobbit who gets asked to go on an adventure, which hobbits are not known to do and it is very much looked down upon by other hobbits. The main important characters in this story are Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf, Thorin, Balin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, Dori, Dwalin, Fili, Gloin, Kili, Nori, Oin and Ori. Some of the Non-important conflicts include trying to escape globins, defeating orcs, and of course getting along with elves. “The Bagginses have lived in the neighborhood of the hill for time out of mind, and people considered them very respectable, not only because most of them rich, but also because they never had any adventures or did anything unexpected”(Tolkien 11).

I extremely liked this book because I enjoy reading and watching media that has a lot of action and this book really delivered from the action with orcs, goblins, and a dragon. I think that if you like fantasy or action books then you should read this book immediately and I think that anyone of all ages would really like this book.

The Hobbit

The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins and how he went on an adventure for the first time in his life. The journey begins when a wizard named Gandalf showed up on Bilbo’s door and left a sign on his door.  When the sigh was left on Bilbo’s door 13 dwarves showed up to his house and said that Bilbo will help them gain entrance to the mountain so that they may defeat the might dragon Smaug and reclaim the Dwarven treasure which Smaug stole so many years ago.

Bilbo will go with the thirteen Dwarves through Rivendell, across the Misty Mountains, and through Mirkwood to the Lonely Mountain where they will find the treasure they are looking for. Bilbo’s job was to find a way in the deep Misty Mountains the darkest places in the world. Bilbo discovers a mysterious ring within the darkness of the mountain. But before he can claim this treasure as his own, he meets a dark creature that lives within the mountains, the dark creature is a miserable, pitiful creature named Gollum, when Bilbo became invisible by wearing the ring on his finger, and he has an opportunity to murder Gollum. He doesn't, however he left Gollum alone and went on so the quest can continue.  In the end, Bilbo finally faces the worst of his fears, conquers them, and confronts the deadly dragon Smaug, deep in the bowels of the Lonely Mountains. The theme of the story is if you overcome your fears, you can achieve almost anything in life. When Bilbo finally gets over his fears of adventures, and danger he is able to complete the mission with his other companions.

The messages that the author is telling us, is don’t let your fears get in the way of what you want to do or be in life.  The author uses characters that appear only in fairy tales, yet gives them a personality that shows the state or quality of being fully grown or developed. I would most curtain highly recommend this book for children of all ages as well as adults. It has a certain appeal that makes the reader want to continue reading the book all day.

The Hobbit

J.R.R. Tolkien is the greatest classical writer of the 20th century.  From his moving to England (although English by blood, he was actually born in Africa) as a young child and the soon followed death of his father.  To fighting in the trenches during the first world war as a young man and later marrying the love of his life and having several children of his own till death sadly parted them both.  He wrote the Lord of the Rings series which was a gigantic success and one of the most famous and beloved classical stories of all time, the Hobbit or there and back again (as J.R.R.Tolkien would so humorously phrase it). It is a thrilling story that, in my opinion, surpassed even his LOTR novel.

This 272 page fantasy fiction is a phenomenal yet unlikely journey across the plains of Middle-Earth.  A small creature known as a hobbit (hence the name) who goes by the name of Bilbo Baggins is living an ordinary day.  That all changes when he suddenly is addressed by a wizard and later thirteen dwarves. They all want the same thing (except for poor Bilbo) the death of Smaug and the spoils he has acquired from the civilizations he has decimated. Smaug though, is an infamous dragon known for burning Thorin Oakenshield’s (leader of those thirteen dwarves) kingdom to the ground.  Bilbo is asked to join the journey and share the spoils. Bilbo accepts their offer after quite a bit of thinking and a quick signature. Bilbo and his patrons set of towards their journey. And let me tell you, it is quite the journey. Before they all know it they run into trouble at every turn. From barely surviving cave trolls that had captured and planned to eat the drawves and our poor little hobbit. And hiking over misty mountains that just so happened to be inhabited by orcs that unknowingly dwelled within. To trudging through the forest of Mirkwood, a once beautiful but now vile forest crawling with unknown creatures and giant spiders that are willing to drain the blood of anything still alive and wood elves that end up imprisoning them. When they at last reach their destination they are greeted by a baron waist land and the almost impossible task they have taken upon themselves to complete. The one that would decide if their journey was worth the trip, Smaug. But they soon learn that Smaug is not the only problem they must face in the near future. More foes are approaching and soon, they will need everything they can muster to survive…

Although the book requires a good deal of patience, it is a riveting tale told by one of the world’s best classical writers. It is a very well structured book with many unexpected twists and turns and it very descriptive which really helps you with your imagination. It is also a very poetic book with many little songs that are very nice. The book also has some comical aspects towards each of the characters. So, overall a great book and I would definitely read it if I have not already.
