Among the Enemy

The book I read was Among the Enemy by Margaret Peterson Haddix. Actually this author did have other book such as The House on the Gulf, Escape from Memory, Takeoffs and Landing, Turnabout, and Running Out of Time. I’m not sure how this book compare to other books that she have wrote because had read her other books. But by reading this book, I can tell that she is very details, and interesting author. In this book it told us about three kids that escape from the prison. Somehow they have to find a way out. After escape from the prison, now they have to find a way to look for help. By reading this book I feel like it would took place back in the 20th-century, which was really interesting.

In this book it was about three kids try to ran away from the Police (Population Police Officer). The two other kids got hurt badly but the other kid didn’t, so he had to hide them and go out to look for help. They names is Matthias (Boy-11 years old), Percy (Boy-13 years old), and last is Alia (Girl-8 years old). Matthias is the boy who have to save his friends from being injury. Percy got shot in the leg while ran away from the police, which he had lost a lot bloods. Alia is sick and got a high fever temperature. Somehow he got into a battle between police and rebels, he decide to help the police to get away from the battle. The police took Matthias and him back to the headquarter. Matthias give fake a name (“Uh, Roger Symmes” pg. 80) to them when he asked him. When they got to the police base, now this a difficult position because his friends are back in the place where he hide them so he have to go back as soon as possible. Now, he had to find a way out of the headquarter.

I like this book a lot because it was a really interesting story to read, I didn’t want to stop after this awesomeness book. I recommend you guys to read this book and also check out her other books too, because the other books have to be good. I can’t recommend any other books other than Among the Enemy, also let you guys know that she does have other books so make sure to read them. This book was a really good, awesome, and interesting books, I am sure that if you read it than you won’t stop.

Among the Hidden

The book “Among the Hidden” was written by Margaret Peterson Haddix.  Margaret has written other shadow children books, I really love the books because they are the continence of Among the Hidden. The books are mostly about a boy named Luke Garner and other third children born in their families who are trying to survive from the population police. The theme of this book is Survival and standing up for what you think is right.

Among the Hidden is about a boy named Luke Garner who is one of the shadow children. A shadow child is a third born child in the family who is forbidden by the population police. All his life Luke had to hide in fear because if the population police were to catch him he would have been killed, he had never been to school or had any friends. There is a housing development replacing the woods next to the Garner’s family house so now Luke is not allowed outside the house anymore because of that. One day Luke sees a girl in the window next door to them which he knows there is already two children living there, he finally meets the girl and her name is Jen who is also a third child just like him. Jen is willing to risk anything to come out of the shadows and live a normal life like the other kids.  Luke finally gets to go to a school of all boys when he took the identity of a boy named Lee who just died.

I would recommend the book “Among the Hidden” to anyone who likes books that keeps you in suspense because when I read this book I kept thinking what will happen next and I just couldn’t put the book down. If you don’t like the book than just get a different book that you like best.

Among the Betrayed

This is Margaret Haddix’s third book in her Shadow Children series.
Nina Idi. is a third child, a shadow child as they call them. After being told on by her best friend to the population police, she now serves time in the population prison with three other kids. The police then tell her, if she finds out who created fake ID’s for these other three shadow children, they’ll let her go free, but she didn’t, then the police would kill all of them.

This book is very dark with the sense of danger in every page. Third children are illegal in a family; the government only allows a family of four to keep the food going around. Any third child born, would have to go into hiding with a fake ID and name, or be sent to prison and be executed. When reading this book, you will see the horrible society on the inside, and the horrors of being a shadow child. Will Nina reveal the identity of the Id forger and end three little kids’ lives and in turn live herself, or do what she can to escape, and get them all killed.

With very few characters in the book, this is one of the books in the series to make you think, “What if this society was real? Who do I know that would die?” Every one of her books holds a mystery to who started the illegal third child predicament.
