While I’ve been sitting here for the past few years
preparing myself for the Zombie Apocalypse, Max Brooks has already taken
matters into his own hands and given a new view on the possibilities of what
the real apocalypse will be like.
In World War Z, Max Brooks places himself in the future as a
journalist who is going around and trying to learn everything he can about how
other people survived during the Zombie War. This book gives multiple views
from so many different men and women who witnessed the horror of the Zombie War
that you are bound to find someone who may have reacted just like you would’ve
reacted. The accounts of the Zombie War are all combined into one single story
that leads from one story to the next. Each person interviewed has their own
story and their own haunting memories to share but each person’s story
intertwines with the next person’s story. This keeps the story intriguing and
makes you want to keep reading.
The story starts off
with an interview with Kwang Jinshu, who is the chairman of the “security
council” in Greater Chongquing, which is a part of the United Federation of
China, where the outbreak of the Zombie Virus began. In this interview Max learns about how at
first it was just a sickness but soon it had taken a turn for the worst and
turned into a virus that would soon impact the full world. Max learns that Kwang
Jinshu was arrested by the prewar Ministry of State Security and because he was
the only person who knew of the effects of the virus and no one believed him
about it, the virus spread and by the time he escaped, the outbreak had spread
beyond China’s borders.
From there the story progresses, switching from one person
to another, story to story. As each story pieces together another story that
will keep you captivated in the book until the very end where you learn about
who really lost World War Z. But you’ll have to read the full book to figure
out that answer.
I definitely recommend this book for others to read because
of how well the book is put together and how each of the stories in the book
can relate to anyone who may read them. There are times during the book when
you may not be as interested in the book as you have been but I guarantee that
the book will pick itself back up and pull you right back into the story. This
book is an 8/10 on my scale because it is put together very well and has a
complete story line, but it only gets an 8 because there are times when it’s
hard to keep up with the story. But don’t let that stop you from reading this
book! It is completely worth the time to read and I guarantee you will enjoy
it!
