The Fault In Our Stars

The book I read was titled “The Fault in our Stars”, written by John Green. Other writings of his include “Looking for Alaska” and “PaperTowns”. Personally I feel he uses a writing style so unique it really captures the reader in and makes them keep wanting more. This story is about a sixteen year old girl named Hazel who is currently going through cancer. Hazel is always cooped up in her house until her Mother demands she gets out more. So she starts going to her support group more often and doesn’t find it very interesting, that is until a mysterious boy named Augustus Waters comes with one of the boys named Isaac.

Over the course of the book Hazel and Augustus spend quite a lot of time together. She opens up to him and shares things with him she’s never shared with anyone else, for example one of the most precious things to her; her favorite book. Hazel also makes a friend out of Isaac from support group, but Isaac is going through troubles of his own. After having surgery on his eyes he goes blind and his girlfriend no longer will talk to him. The bond intensifies as Hazel, Augustus, and Hazel`s Mom travel overseas to Amsterdam in the hopes of meeting Hazel`s favorite author, but when she gets there he is not all he seems to be.  Hazel also finds out that Augustus is very ill and she is not doing very well herself at the time. The story has us questioning what will happen to them both. In the end, without spoiling the plot, I think Hazel learns some very important lessons she did not even know about herself. She learns to love, hope, and overall she learns once again what it’s like to have fun.

The Fault in our Stars was an amazing book, it had great writing styles and it was so fluently put together that you just kept wanting to read it. For me close to the end of it was a real plot twister, because I was not expecting that to happen. I would definitely recommend this book; it really shows you what people with cancer have to go through. Not only that it’s just a good book, the plot was spot on and the writing performed by John Green was astonishing. The book I would say falls under the categories of tragedy, relationship/romantic, and fiction.

  1. I agree that the author writing was very good in the book The Fault In Our Stars. It was hard for me to put down the book! The ending was a huge plot twist and also very sad yet happy. There were many mixed feelings I had during this book, but in the end the author had a theme and the whole book was a great book to read. I also agree on recommending this book to many people. The Theme was telling us to never take life for granted. The writing kept the reader engaged and made you fell what the characters were felling.
