Because of Winn-Dixie

This book is called “Because of Winn-Dixie” and it was written by Kate DiCamillo. “Because of Winn- Dixie” is a children's book that was written during a difficult time for the main character who was adjusting to a new neighborhood. Kate DiCamillo writes both books and novels that are mostly fantastic and children's literature, young adult fiction and just fiction. Kate DiCamillo has written so many others books. Most of her books are like “Because of Winn-Dixie” and they are: The tale of Despereaux, Flora and Ulysses: Theilluminated Adventures, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, RagtimeNightingale, The Tiger Rising, The Magician’s Elephant, Bink and Gollie, TwoFor One, Because of Winn-Dixie Plush, Mercy Watson Fight Crime, and LeroyNinker Saddles Up. The overall message for this book is making new friends and believing in people.

India Opal Buloni is a ten year old girl who just moved to a new neighborhood and had no friends. She moved with her father, the preacher, and didn't have a mother, because when she was a baby her mom left her with her father. One day her father sent her to the grocery store to buy some food for home, and she came back with a dog. Opal met the dog at a store called “Winn-Dixie” when she was buying tomatoes. “And then the dog came running around the corner. He was a big dog. And Ugly. And he look like he was having a good time” (Opal). The dog got in trouble and had no owner, so he was going to get sent to the pound. Opal didn't want that, so she said the dog was hers.  But she had no name for him, so she called him Winn-Dixie. She said that she and the dog had lots in common. Opal and Winn-Dixie had to journey to make new friends. On their journey they meet a librarian named Miss Franny Block, Gloria Dump an old lady that is also half blind, and Otis an employee at Gertrude’s pet store, and a twin Dunlap and Stevie, sweetie Pie and finally Amanda.

I really like this book because it is easy to read, about friendship and getting use to a new environment, you can relax when you read it. This book is written for everyone but mostly written to children, and if you read it you will really like it. You can read this book anytime but mostly when you are stress then it will relax you. If you read this book you will not waist your time.
