Author: Adam Rapp
These are some of his books you might have heard or read
about. All of his books are in the fiction and drama type genre. A troubled
thirteen year old name Sura is sent to a juvenile detention facility for a six
months sentence with his best friend Coly Jo. But his best friend has a problem
with staying out of trouble. In this book, he learns about the loss of friends,
how to keep strong, and learns about survival. The theme I would say is
Violence, because that's what got them in the facility in the first place. And
towards when they get there they deal with violence with other teens.
Sura and Coly Jo are sent to a juvenile detention facility.
They were supposed watch out for one another. Sura is sent there because of
stolen car equipment. Coly jo is sent because he breaks into people's house.
When they get there, they meet these two older teens name Hodge and Boo
Boxfoot. Both older teens rules the detention center. They are much older and
tougher than the rest. They get what they want whenever they want. The
detention center is like their kingdom. But they started messing with Sura and
Coly. They started stealing from them, teasing them. Boo stole Coly’s hat. When
he stole it back, they took it the extreme and poured a bucket of sewage on
him. After that incident, from then on Coly jo was bullied both physically and
emotionally. And Sura did nothing to help. Coly Jo thought that if he took his
own life, all of his problems would go away. And so he did. Before Coly Jo had
committed suicide, Sura gave him his windbreaker, and he tied it to the tree
hand. After his past, Sura thought about a lot. He thought about ways to clear
his mind. Like he'd stack books, magazines, etc… Sura said “ it's hard not to
look though “. What he meant by that was the tree where his windbreaker is. He
didn't wanna think of Coly Jo, he wanted to move on. But it was hard, because
it was tied to the tree like a flag.
I really loved this book. Everything about this book just
made me wanna read it another time. Just all the drama and intensity was really
fun to read about. I could understand what was happening, and why it was
happening. I know the feeling of losing a friend, so I just made that
connection. If you like reading books with drama in it read this book. I would
say not all readers would like this book just because it's starts off slow,
they'll probably get tired of it and just stop reading it.
