One of the good books i’ve read this trimester is, Forever,
by Judy Blume. She writes a lot of Young adult novels, romance novels,
children's books ect. I’ve never read any of her other books but I hope when I
do read another series, it could be a sequel to Forever. Well, i’d say Forever
isn’t always forever.
This novel starts out at a New Year’s party and Katherine is
now liking it a lot. She meets this guy named Michael, he’s sweet, funny, wears
glasses, and is interested in her as well. As they start to date, Katherine and
Michael get mildly attached to each other and the thought of sex comes up and
Katherine isn’t ready, but they have an emotional urge for the feeling of
pleasure and begin to touch each other. As their relationship grows, they begin
to go on many trips together. Katherine goes to she her best friend Erica.
Erica believes that sex isn’t a big deal of your change in life, that Katherine
should just “get it out of the way”. Katherine and Erica are joined by Michael
and his friend Artie. Artie is a depressed kid who Erica got together with but
soon split because he told her he was going to kill himself. He made an attempt
to hang himself from this shower curtain, but it failed and he was hospitalized
.
Michael’s sister invites him and Katherine to go on a skiing
trip with them, where they plan to have intercourse, but katherine is on her
period and they are both displeased. They later do “it” at Michael’s sisters
place in her living room because she isn’t home and they seal their love as
“forever”. On Katherine’s birthday Michaels gets her a necklace having both
their names and the work “Forever’ in the middle. It’s beginning to become summer
and they have to spend some time apart. Katherine work’s a summer camp with her
little sister for about a month and Michael works in a different state and cuts
wood. At the summer camp Katherine meets Theo and she seems to become attached.
I recommend this novel to a big older young adults because
the diction in this book is very inappropriate. Besides that, i believe the
novel was an amazing book and actually taught me right from wrong in me teenage
life and high school experience. The overall novel was pretty hilarious, but
also i could connect with it. Not that anything like that has happened to be
and I understand it. I’d rate this book 3.5 stars out of 5.
Evalynn: I really enjoyed your review of Forever! I think you've pointed out many important things about this novel that not every reader sees. I like that you noticed how Kath and Michael's relationship develops, and that they want it to last "forever." Have you read any other Judy Blume novels? I'd recommend Deenie. Also, you might enjoy Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen. Thanks for your review!
