The book I read was a novel called Ten Mile River by Paul
Griffin. This is the first book I have read from this author but I really
enjoyed reading it. This author writes a lot of Young adult novels, children’s
books and fictional books. I have not gotten the chance to read any of his
other novels but I hope when I do, it could be a sequel to Ten Mile River. This
book’s main characters are about two boys with a close friendship helping
eachother survive the hardships of juvenile detention, and a drop out. Between
the boys, José is the boss, but Ray is a much bigger boy.
In the story, José and Ray live near what is called, the Ten
Mile River. They are known as thieves in their city which makes it hard for Ray
to get into a school again and make friends. The main conflict in the story is
making new friends and being trusted. José wants to live the rest of his life
stealing and mugging people but Ray is different. Ray wants to start school,
have a girlfriend, be smart, ect. The story also introduces two girls who will
change the boy's life forever, both negatively and positively.
I did like the book a lot because of the funny dialogue and
the great detail of when the fights happened. But I also disliked how in the
story, one of the brothers are mistreated when they are innocent. I do not
believe this book is written for a certain audience so I recommend this book to
everyone who likes fictional stories. I would personally rate this book a 4 out
of 5 stars because I would not mind reading it again and because I really like
the characters.
All in all, it is a great book to read and enjoy, so I
consider that you try and give this book a shot!
Book Review by Zeph Y.
Ten Mile River seems like a very interesting book to read. I would like to read this book, because it interests me to learn more about friendships likely said than done. This book got my attention because of the two characters that was said and described differently. Even though, I have not read this book, this book is a book full of interesting things more than friendships and hardship. Reading Ten Mile River will be a best fit to me, because the book consider many different personalities or something.
