If you want to get lost in a book read "speak" by
Laurie Anderson, it's a young adult novel. She has written "chains",
"wintergirl", "fever 1796" and plenty more. I've only read
one book by her but it was so good. The theme is it's not always good to keep things
in, it's okay to talk to people about the problems you are having or asking for
help.
Her book is about a young freshman girl named Melinda . She went to a party before school started and ended up calling the police on the party she went to and no one knows why, everyone just thinks it's because she was a young girl that didn't want to be at the party anymore buts that not really want happen. Her first year of high school and nobody wants to be her friend because of what she did. Soon she makes a new friend, but loses her to a group at school. Melinda doesn't care to much about school, only art. She doesn't talk to nobody and her parents don't seem to pay to much attention to her at home, until her and her parents get called into school to talk about her grades. Soon after she started doing better in school, not skipping classes. One school day she was in the media center and saw one of her old friends and finally decided to talk to her. They talked about her old friends boyfriend and how Melinda didn't like him because of some things he did.... of course Melindas old friend didn't believe her and Called her a freak, also saying she was crazy. Couple days later Melinda was in art and someone spilled paint on her shirt, so the girl and her both went to the bathroom. Melinda went in the stall to take her shirt off to clean it and saw that people wrote stuff in the bathroom about other girls problems. Then Melinda thought she should write about this boy, little did she know other girls had the same problem. When she went back to that stall a couple days later she seen a lot more people wrote about that boy that she did. After the weekend there was a lot of talk about prom and what Melindas old friend did. What her friend did lead to a lot of danger for Melinda.
If you want to find out the rest you should probably go read that book, it'll hook you in right away. Every time I started reading this book I didn't want to put it down. Laurie Anderson wanted to target teenage girls. It taught me that is okay to ask for help or talk to someone and to not keep it in. You never know someone might be going through what you are going though. Everyone should go read the book "speak" shows you why you should speak up instead of keeping it in.
