Kinda Like Brothers

The book I read was Kinda Like Brothers  by Coe Booth. Booth has written other books like Bronxwood, This is push, and many more. Kinda like brothers is the first book I've read by Coe. The book is about a boys mother that has a foster home and gets two new kids, one who happens to be older than who she usually fosters, and they stay longer than expected. The theme for this book is to always keep an open mind.

Jarrett is use to his mom bringing home foster babies, but this time it was different. When new foster kids Kevon and Treasure show up at Jarrett's house he is surprised to see a boy older than him. When Jarrett's mom “Mrs ashby” told Kevon he would be staying in the Jarretts room with him Jarrett already knew his summer wasn't going to be what he expected. Most of the day Jarrett had to attend which left Kevon at home in Jarrett's room which left Jarrett uncomfortable.

This was a really good book, I liked it because it gave me a chance on what it might feel like to live in a house who is always having new kids. The book is very entertaining once you start reading you don't want to stop. Each chapter gets better and better and especially to the middle school audience it'll finally be an entertaining book you want to read. The next time you're looking for a book I suggest “Kinda Like Brothers.”

  1. I want to read this book after I'm finished with the book I'm currently reading . I want to read this book because I have friends whose parents used to have foster kids and I've always wanted to understand what it felt like to live with foster kids . Also , I've read about other books made by this author and the books sound very interesting . I feel like this book will help me get more of an understanding as to what life is like with foster children. This book also sounds very interesting because in the review it says that one day the boys mom brings home a foster child that is older than him for the first time and that seems as if it might start problems with her son and the foster kid .
