Bob Kerch published this book on October 1st 2006. Other
books he has created are more for kids and they seem to be the main thing he
writes about.
About the book, this Polish white boy named Ray Wisniewski
is from a small town, that's known for wrestlers, not basketball players and
he's seeking to join the school basketball team but hasn't been able to make
the team from freshman year to junior year, until senior year. As time goes,
Ray is affected by what happened to him and his peers.
Ray attended Franklin high and where he always worked on
game. During the summer he's makes a game winning shot in the championship, and
where his talent is finally being realized. Although he hasn't made the team
from freshman year to junior year, he's not giving up and senior year, he
finally makes varsity. During senior year, he makes new friends and loses
friends. Including meeting this new girl who he's quite fond with.
Ray had problems with some other students and at one point,
his best friend is willing to take him to go resolve his problems because he
was punched in the jaw by a kid named Seven. When they get there, Ray doing the
best he can, doesn't go fight them, instead goes to play basketball with his
new friends instead and enjoy his senior year.
The book is a ⅘, although it has some good
moments, there are also the moments where you won't agree with, but the book is
very good, talks about how the old coach thinks Ray is really racist and
doesn't enjoy playing with blacks. Although, Ray doesn't have the best
relationship with blacks, in the end he loves his basketball friends more than
his old friends. The book is more for teens, talks about how one judging you
can do so much to affect you. I recommend this book because nowadays, everyone
is being judged, this book seems to talk about it.
