A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Ersatz Elevator

The book I read for trimester 2 was “A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Ersatz Elevator” by Lemony Snicket. It is the 6th book in the series that consists of 12 books. I don’t know of other titles or series's by this author. This book is a suspenseful adventure where you have to look for a solution where the solution might not usually be found. I’ve read 4 of the other books in this series and I enjoyed them all. The author does a very good job keeping me engaged in the readings with the plot twists and mysteries.

The series is about Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire who were orphaned by a fire that burned down their mansion and killed their parents. The children go through a series of unfortunate events throughout the series and the evil count Olaf, their original caretaker, is behind it all. Count Olaf is an actor who dresses up as different characters to disguise himself as he follows the Baudelaires everywhere they go. He plots to get rid of them and steal the family fortune left behind by their parents when he does so. In “The Ersatz Elevator”, the Baudelaires arrive at their new home on 667 Dark Avenue where they will live with their new caretakers, Mr. and Mrs. Squalor. The Baudelaire’s are in search of their friends, the Quagmire triplets, who have mysteriously disappeared since they met them at the Astre Academy. Their disappearance is believed to be another dastardly deed done by none other than count Olaf. This time, Olaf is disguised as a foreign auctioneer and is lurking in the apartment complex and you’ll never guess where he’s hiding. If you really want to find out you should read the book!

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it’s mysteries. If I hadn’t found this book I don’t know what I would be reading because I don’t enjoy reading all that much. This book however, as well as the other books in the series, have kept me reading and wanting more and I highly recommend it! Go read it as soon as you can ‘cause if I enjoyed it, being a not so avid reader, I think you’ll enjoy it too. I also recommend that if you plan on reading this book that you read books 1-5 so that you understand the background and know what happens leading up to the sixth book.
