The Maze Runner

The book I read was the Maze Runner by James Dashner. This is the first and only novel I have read by the author so I’m not sure how it differs from his other works. The story follows a young teenager, who awakes in an elevator, with amnesia, the only thing he remembers is his name Thomas. As the elevator reaches its destination he finds, another hundred boys the same age as him. The boys are living in 4 sided homestead, called the glade, it is surrounded by stone walls, what is beyond the stone walls is a maze on a time cycle, where the paths change, and at night the maze releases nightmarish creatures. He soon realizes that all he wants to do is to escape. The theme of this book revolves around “friendship can overcome anything” Thomas has to befriend many people to survive the horrors of the maze and, hopefully, escape.
Thomas is thrown into the Glade with no explanation, everyone is as confused as him. Thomas has to befriend many people in the Maze, who each have a special trait to them. Whether they have a positive attitude toward the situation or they’re a good cook Thomas has to work with them in order to escape. We get to see Thomas as a confused and scared individual, and as he eventually starts to regain memories and receive visions of his past life, he has to become strong and powerful. This evolution is very interesting to see, his growth is very substantial from the beginning book to the end.
I have to say the Maze Runner is a read I would suggest to everyone. It’s very interesting and original, with great devolved characters, and it keeps you reading for more. I would definitely suggest it to anyone if they’re looking for a book that is adventurous and suspenseful, at times. The author Dashner does a very good job at pacing the booking so it keeps you and interested and coming back for more. If you’re looking for a book with incredibly great paced heart and suspenseful action all in on, then I can’t recommend any other book then the Maze Runner.

  1. This book seems like an interesting book to read especially since the summer is coming up and I need new books to read. Lately I have been very interested in adventure books and dystopian novels so this sounds like a book that will keep me interested. One of my biggest issues with books is if they do not know how to pace them self when they write something so this book seems like something that wouldn't be bothersome to read but interesting and enjoyable. Based off the way you describe the book and comparing it to what I know about the book based off the movie I would compare it to the Hunger Games in the sense that it is a dystopian novel and they live in this what is supposed to be a nice place to live and they aren't supposed to leave; when they do leave and they do disobey there 'rules' they are confronted by a higher power. Overall I think this will be added to the list of books I want to read before the end of the summer.

  2. This book seems like a very interesting book to read because of how much adventure and suspense that it has. I have been looking for a good adventurist book to reads lately. this novel sounds like it would keep me wanting to know more till the very end. and I am glad to know that this book paces itself. Because, I don't like to read any books that start off slow and then take forever to end. And this book does not seem like it would do that. From the way you described this book I would probably compare it to the hunger games because, it seems to have a lot of action. A lot of suspension, and a lot of parts in the story that would make it so you don't want to put the book down, and the books are very similar because, the way these kids live. they are put in a place were they cant leave until the basically solve the puzzle to the maze or dome they are in. overall I think that this book will be one that I read this summer.
