I just finished up the book, The Hitchhikers Guide to the
Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Douglas Adams was born in England and has written many
books for example The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul, The meaning of Liff and
others. He also wrote three stories to the hit BBC television series Doctor
Who. Before The Hitch Hikers guide to the Galaxy is Douglas’s originated of a
BBC radio comedy before becoming a book and also it was his most famous book.
The book is about a man named Arthur Dent who meets and alien named Ford
Perfect from Betelgeuse and their adventure throughout the galaxy hitch hiking.
I believe the theme of the book is to not live in the box but to live abstractly.
I think this because the universe is a huge place so don’t try to live in the
box explore your surroundings meet new people and not be close minded.
The story starts out in England with Arthur Dent house
getting torn down so a new road can be built; His whole life will change at
that very moment. On that very day he meets an Alien named Ford Perfect; Arthur
is I luck because on this day is when Vogons an alien race decide to destroy
earths so they can create a space road way. This is perfect for Arthur because
Ford has manage for both of them to hitch a ride with the Vogon ship's cooks. Unfortunately, the Vogons
don't like hitchhikers, so Arthur and Ford get thrown out of the spaceship to
die in the cold void of interstellar space. The rest of the book is about the
adventures: to find the answer to the universe, to pick up and travel with
other hitch hikers and to have the time of their lives.
I would not
recommend for you to read this book; but if you like science fiction then you
would love this book. Personally I did not like the book I found myself:
spacing off, getting very bored and not understanding what was going on while I
was reading this book. I think that you shouldn’t check this book out if you
don’t like science fiction because this book while end up boring you and you
will find that it is very slow moving book. I did not enjoy reading it.
Book Review by Sophia R.
I think after reading your review that I will not like this book. For starters, it's science fiction. When I try to read science fiction naturally I have a really hard time figuring out what the heck is going on, also the adventures that they will have doesn't sound like I would really enjoy. It just seems to be missing it's uniqueness. This book reminds me of the movie they made of The Hitchhikers Guild To The Galaxy (which is the same as the book). I liked the movie, although in truth if I read a book on it I would get horribly confused and find it doesn't have enough action. I would like a book with more suspense at every corner that moves quickly and has an engaging plot, which is why I don't think I would enjoy the book.
