Living Dead Girl

The book I read is called “Living Dead Girl” By Elizabeth Scott. Elizabeth Scott is also the author of The Unwritten Rule, Bloom, Perfect You, and Stealing Heaven. This book is not like other books I’ve read, it’s one of those books that you start reading and stop for a moment because it makes you emotional and pick back up because you really want to know the ending. You really want the book to end on a happy note. I would say that this book really teaches you how to appreciate life. This book really goes with the quote “You never know what you have until it’s gone”.

This story is about a Girl named Alice who goes on a school trip to the zoo with her school when she was in elementary, ten years old, and she gets kidnapped by a man named Ray. Ray has nothing but bad intentions. Years pass, Alice is fifteen, and Ray still has her. Alice thinks about her death more and more. She would rather be dead than be living this nightmare. Alice always thinks about how her family is doing, why they don’t search for her, and what would happen if she were to escape and go back with her family. In the story Alice says “I look wrong. I look dead. I’m not, though. I’m only partway there, a living dead girl. I have been for five years” (Scott 7). What Alice is trying to say here is that she already feels dead because she has no one by her side. She’s living with a monster. Her family stopped searching for her so what’s the point right? They’re probably better off without her. They probably started a new family. They probably forgot all about her by now.

I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking for a good realistic fiction book to read. When I first picked out this book I didn’t think I was going to like it but I got it anyway because I wanted to try to read something new. This has everything you would want in a book. It has a theme, good characters, unpredictability, and a satisfying ending. It also has a sort of mysterious vibe to it as well. I think people who really like realistic fiction or dramatic books would really enjoy this the most. I would even recommend this to people who don’t like or wouldn’t get these types of books because this would totally change your opinion on realistic fiction books. Living Dead Girl teaches you a lot about life and how it could be changed at any moment and it doesn’t always get changed for the better. This book defiantly reminds me of the quote “You never know what you have until it’s gone. Don’t believe me? Read for yourself to find out.

  1. I've read this book, and I would also recommend it. Though the story can cause you to feel emotional, its really good. I also like this book because its different from what i usually read. I prefer to read Fantasy and Mythical books but Living Dead Girl really caught my attention, the things that happened to the main character can happen to anybody. You could say it kind of opened my eyes. This book is great and I agree with Maria, if you like realistic fiction you will love Living Dead Girl.

  2. I would absolutely read living dead girl because the drama and suspense sounds absolutely interesting. This book sounds a lot like shows I have seen and watched or books I have read like; the show medium, and other shows I have watched.

  3. I would really enjoy to read this book. This book seems like something I wouldn't be able to put down; The explanation made me want to continue reading. It leaves me with so many questions: Why was she kidnapped, does she ever return home or Did her parents really give up? Another reason this book seems to catch my attention is because from the explanation it seems like she's given up all hope. Its seems that she feels that no one cares about about her; she would rather be dead than alive. Reading this book and and figuring out that her hope gets restored would be amazing. No child should be kidnapped but they are, no one should feel worthless and un cared for lastly no one should ever feel dead. Alice's life was taken from her in only a spilt of a second I would love to read her perspective and how that effected her life. Overall I would love to read such an intriguing, alarming and what seems to be a very traumatizing book. In the end I hope that Alice's family finds her and restores her hope and joy. I hope that she begins to start feeling less like a living dead girl and starts to feel more alive.
