The Book NUM8ERS (Numbers) is a fiction novel, was published February 1st 2010 by Chicken
House/Scholastic Inc. The author of the
book is Rachel Ward, who generally writes teen novels. Numbers is a book from a trilogy, it is
followed by The Chaos, with the last book being Infinity. The main character is an orphan named Jem who
realizes she is able to see a date when she looks someone directly in the eye;
She is able to see the "expiration date" of others. The plot takes place when she is seen with a
new friend, fleeing from the seen of a
terrorist act. She knows her new
friend is going to die soon, but she doesn't want it to happen. The I believe the theme of the story is that
you must cherish every moment you have with those you love, which Jem learn
throughout the book .
The setting of the book takes place in greater London from
the eyes of a supernatural girl who is 15 years old. She is a student who is far behind in school
but she really doesn't care to much about that.
She lost here mom when she was around 4 years old and that was when she
realized her ability. After that event
she conceals her appearance, wearing a hoodie or letting her hair down. She avoids looking at people and is usually
by herself. Down by a creek she sees a
Terry; He goes by the name of Spider.
Jem sees that he only has a few
months to go, and decides see what a friend is like for a little while couldn't
be a bad idea, so they hand out for a few days.
When they are hanging out at an amusement park Jem sees many people are
to die. They run and an explosion goes
off. They are seen when they escape and are thought to have to do something
with deaths at the park. They decide to
flee the city and hide in the wilderness.
I would highly recommend this book to high school aged and
above. I wouldn't recommend it to
elementary kids because there is a small amount of suggestive content in the
book, which can be strange to kid at those ages. The book also has parts that include
terrorism, drugs, and criminal activity.
If you are very sensitive about those things I would not suggest reading
it, otherwise it is a great book with a nice ending, and found the book will
make you want to keep reading. I really enjoyed reading it.

ReplyDeleteI think that this book sound very intriguing; I cant wait to read the book and see what happens to the main character and her friend. It sounds like a book that is full of action clear to the end. I also like that the book is part of trilogy , so if I like it I will be able to read them all. This book does not sound like anything I have ever read before; It sounds like something I would love.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this review I became interested in reading the book. The part that is really intriguing is that the protagonist can see when the people around her will die. This book is similar to the T.V. show ''The Listener'', in which the main character can read the minds of other. This is a T.V. show that I really like so I bet that I will enjoy this book.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds really interesting. I love fiction novels, so i think i will like this one. I like how the main character can see peoples "expiration date." It makes the book sound even better. This book sounds very similar to the Virals series by Kathy Reichs. If it is anything like those books than I know for a fact that I will love this book.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds really good. I like books where people who are shy come out get friends and get in trouble because they have a different view on life.I want to know what caused them to even get together and why they ran instead of staying like a witness. it kinda reminds of this show where some people were visiting and then they got blamed for the fire and they had no idea what had happen. it sounds like a fun book and i buy a copy for the summer
ReplyDeleteThis really does sound like a book I would read because it seems like I wouldn't get bored while reading this. I sound like it has a little bit of everything in it. It seems sort of mysterious and full of action. I would kind of relate to this character because of the fact that we're the same age and I would understand her more. The next time I look for a new book to read I would certainly keep this book in mind.
