My second book review is “Dodger” by the late Terry
Pratchett. Other notable works include A Blink of the Screen, Raising Steam, The
Wit and Wisdom of Discworld, and many others.
Dodger starts with a
storm. As the storm rages, a girl falls out of a carriage; the titular
character, Dodger, hears her screams as he is moving out of the sewers from
which he was toshing (toshing is a profession that was prevalent in Victorian
era London, which consisted of going into to the sewers and looking for
valuable things) from. He runs to the scene and sees two assailants trying to
grab her. He quickly defeats these two and was noticed by Charles Dickens. This
sets off a series of events that create a fun journey.
I recommend this book to
anyone who likes humorous, whimsical tales. This blend of fact and fiction will
keep anyone reading. If you like adventure and to laugh, this book is for
you.
