The Summer Prince

The Summer Prince

This book is by Alaya Dawn Johnson. The novel is a science fiction that is 304 pages long. This book is about a metropolis city in Brazil named Palmares Tres. This city has a different king every 5 years and kills the recent one as a sacrafise to the city and to the people.  June, Gil and the current summer king Enki are the main characters. June creates art that’s sure to make her a legend. Her dreams of fame are scares until she meets the summer king Enki. The whole city is in love with this new king, including Gil. June sees more in Enki than a summer king, she sees a fellow artist. Together June and Enki stage explosive, dramatic projects that Palmares Tres will never forget. There is a growing rebellion against the government’s strict limits on new tech. June will soon fall deeply in love with Enki and like past kings, he will die. What will happen? What happens in the rebellion against the government? Well read to find out.

I thought this book was okay. It caught my attention somewhat, I don’t really like the fact that every 5 years the king is killed as a sacrafise to the city. Why cant they have some other ritual? Seems like common sense to me at least. It makes me wonder why the author chose to right about this specific story. If this seems like your kind of book, go for it. I don’t think I would read it again.
