Mary downing Hahn
Mary has also written The Old Willis Place, When HelenComes, All The Lovely Bad Ones. This book is really good. All of the books she
has written are ghost stories and are based off of paranormal encounters with
spirits. In this story 13 year old Ali stumbles across a old photo of her mom
and aunt and a third girl. On the back the third girl’s name is torn off along
with her face. Ali meets a ghost and they don’t get along very well. Ali fights
a lot with the ghost, they argue and make threats with each other but they
become great friends in the end. These books are fictional.
In the story Ali finds a picture of three people. Her
mother, her aunt, and another girl that she cannot identify because her face
and name are ripped out. Later, Ali discovers this girl has died from drowning
in a lake next to the house. Ali talks to the spirits and finds out her name is
Sissy, who died 1997. They don’t get along because the ghost is very spiteful.
She wants Ali to know the truth about how she died so Ali and Sissy work
together to figure it out. Ali’s Aunt tells her the spirits name is actually
Theresa, she was also mean to Ali’s aunt but they were still considered in a
way “special” friends. After much investigation, Ali’s Aunt finally tells Ali
the truth about the day that Sissy died in the lake. That day sissy, Ali’s
mother and her aunt were all in a canoe when Sissy and Ali’s aunt began to
argue. The canoe began to shake as they moved around threatening eachother, and
suddenly it flipped. Everyone fell into the water , they called Sissy’s name
but there was no response. Despratly gripping the boat to stay afloat, they
realized that Sissy was no where in sight, she had never come up from the
water. Realizing what they have done they headed home immediately, Sissy’s
parents were very concerned.
“Have you seen Theresa?” her father asked.
In fear that they would be arrested, the kids lied and told
Sissy’s parents they haven’t seen her all day. The police were called to talk
to Ali’s mother and aunt but they didn’t say a word. At the end of the book Ali
and her aunt set out to the lake where she is shown where Sissy had drowned. A
police diver, or a diver working for the station, goes down and finds Sissy’s
body. Sissy is buried and Sissy leaves for she now at peace.
I strongly recommend this book to all people who like ghost
stories, or a good suspenseful read. This books is packed full of suspense and
things that will severely touch your emotions. I do not recommend this story to
the faint at heart or the weak, it will give you nightmares for the rest of
your life. This book personally scared the living ba-jeemmers outta me the dead
ba-jeemmers as well. They were literally reincarnated and scared out of my
body. I loved it that is why every one should read this story.
