Gym Candy

This book is called Gym candy. The author’s name is Carl Deuker. Carl has written many books including Night Hoops, Heart of a Champion, Painting the Blacks, and On the Devil’s Court.  I have only read this book from his fascinating long line of choices. From my prospective, I can assure you that he writes very good novels.  Gym Candy has been by far the best book I have ever read.  This action-packed adventurous book is about a high-school football player named Mick Johnson that goes through tough times, becoming involved in a steroid called Gym Candy.

Mick’s father is very focused on his son’s future in football.  He is very serious about his son’s strength, and physical appearance.   When he was younger Mick’s father was hurt in a serous tackle ending his football career, Mick did not want to have the same thing happen to him.  But it did, a harsh tackle on the field knocked Mick back to the bottom of his game.  This is when Mick meets his personal trainer, Peter Volz.  Peter agrees to work with Mick but explains to him that it will be the hardest training he has ever done and that Mick must agree to work through the pain. Mick realizes his body cannot take any more heat from the 250-pound linebackers, and agrees to the training.  That is when Mick starts using Gym Candy a hardcore steroid.  Mick never thought the steroid would do so much for his body.  Gym Candy increased his strength, speed, and endurance and it left him craving for more.  The addictive steroid was starting to take over Mick’s life.   His friends, Drager, Kaylee and Natalie were very supportive of Mick’s love of footballNone of his friends knew that he was using the drug until the end. Drager had some suspicions but did not say anything because he was afraid of losing his best friend, if they had known sooner Mick would have been a lot safer before his big moment.  They were just to late… If you want to see what happens to Mick read the book, RIGHT NOW!!!

This book was very good; I loved the descriptive scenes of the serious tackles during the football games.  Carl Deuker’s writing goes way beyond, he gives so much detail in every sentence, it was almost as if I was watching a movie. Throughout the 313 pages, I could not put the book down.  I would recommend to read this book immediately, I give it 10/10 stars.
