Godless

I have read Godless by Pete Hautman. This is my first time reading any of Pete's books. I was astonished with the theme of this book. A 15 year old Jason Bock is best friends with Shin god of the snails. While attending church Jason comes up with a joke to start a new religion worshiping the town water tower. Jason names the new religion Church of the Ten Legged one, or for short CTG. Jason shares his new religion with his best friend Shin. Jason recruits  three others Dan, Magda, and Henry to worship the CTG.

As Jason still plays along with the joke, Shin takes the new religion to a whole new level. Jason then declares the new members as Chutengodianism. As this new religion escalates further so does Shin believing that Water towers are living and walk about, and his members are slowly departing from the religion. Jason has to snap Shin out of CTG before he does something serious, and explain out to get out of his current situation to his parents and friends.

Although I wouldn't highly recommend this book. Anyone able to give an opinion on their religion should read this book. I say that because of the extensive use of denying all religions of have a real god. Which could be offensive to some. Pete really made good statements and had good writing against worshiping different religions.
