The book I read for this trimester is called Tyrell written
by Coe Booth, Coe Booth is a writer who has written others book like “Kindra”a
girl trying to understand herself and her complicated family, and also
“Bronxwood’ the sequel to tyrell. These books are similar, because it talks
about teens involved with gang and addicted to drugs. Tyrell is trying to keep
his little brother in school but his mom want him to sell drugs to make money,
his father is in jail, nothing seem to be going right for Tyrell.
This book is about a 15 year old boy name Tyrell, his
mom and his seven year old brother, loses their apartment with his dad in
prison for selling drug. But even with all of these obstacles,
Tyrell come up with a plan to make some quick money, his plan is to host a big
party. Will he be able to take care of his family, or will he end up in
jail like his dad?.
From my perspective, I would recommend Tyrell to others
because this book is based on teens who are struggling and involving in
criminal activity when you have to get by any means to understands what is it
like to live in poverty, to take care of your family at the age of 15. I truly
suggest this book because most teens could relate to issues and theme present
in this book and it can be life changing moment for some teens, becoming just
like your parent or choosing your own path.
