The title of my book is "Money Hungry " by: Sharon
Flake. She also wrote the books; The Skin I'm In , and Bang. The story I have
read is about a little black girl named Raspberry. (She got the name because of
her hair color, eyebrows and her freckles. Raspberry Hill is always scheming
about ways to make money. She's starved for it, and will do just about anything
to get like washing cars, sell rotten candy, skip lunch, and clean houses. She
is obsessed but is also afraid. Memories of them being homeless freezing in the
cool weather at night just sent chills down her spine. She has friends Ming,
Zora, Janae, Mia, and Sato. They cause some problems in her life but they are
soon resolved.
Raspberry is obsessed with money. She loves the looks of it,
and it's values. Her mom even hates how obsessive she is over it. Raspberry and
her mom has been homeless. Her mother tells her that they maybe homeless again
soon she gets really frustrated. She doesn't wanna go back to sleeping in the
car. So Raspberry is determined so that her and her mom won't be homeless. Soon
after all those long cold years of trying to keep a house, they are approved
for Section 8 to move to a beautiful house in Pecan a Landings. It's all
downhill after their apartment in the projects have been robbed, and residents
in. The Pecan Landings area don't want them to live in their neighborhood
because their black so they protest against them not being able to live there.
Raspberry must do everything in her power to keep her world from falling apart.
I really enjoyed the book a lot because I love seeing how
far a person can go to not struggle. I would target this book to people who
could relate to this so they can learn how to get stronger from their struggles
without giving up. I think that a lot of people would enjoy this book just as I
did because it was a story to inspire. I think everyone should read this
because i think that it teaches you that not matter how life gets never give
up, and that everything happens for a reason so if your homeless maybe might
just get a house just as Raspberry and her mother. I'm glad that that they
didn't give up because it's really inspiring not to just me but also to others.
