The Last Straw

The book I am reading is called Diary Of A Wimpy Kid LastStraw; it is the third book in a ten book series. It is written by a famous author called Jeff Kinney. He knew he wanted to be a cartoonist during his time at the University of Maryland. There he was put in charge of Igdoof a comic strip in the campus newspaper. Jeff Kinney worked on diary of a wimpy kid for six years before it was posted on Funbrain.com. In 2007 the book was finally published and became a bestseller. The last straw and the fourth book dog days were combined into a movie with the name being Diary of a wimpy kid dog days. The book is a diary of the main character Greg Heffley through the second half of seventh grade.

The story starts off with Greg trying to help his family achieve the their New Year's resolution. Greg believes he is perfect so he wants to help others be as perfect as he is. His dad does not believe he is perfect and wants him to toughen up while Greg wants to remain lazy. Greg’s dad does not want him to be like his older brother Rodrick. The central theme of this book is no one is perfect even if you believe you are. Greg believes he is perfect yet just by reading the book you can think of a lot of reasons why he is not. Everyone in the book has a big flaw but do not  notice it as they are too busy looking at other people. Greg belief that he is perfect has gotten him into many conflicts mostly with his family. He believes his younger brother Manny is spoiled, Rodrick is lazy and messy, his dad is a sugar addict, and his mom can't complete goals she sets for herself. When it reaches New Years Greg does not make one and says something that proves he is delusional. He says “Well, the problem is it's not easy for me to think of ways to improve myself, because I'm already pretty much one of the best people I know”.(page 1)

I enjoyed reading all the books in the series and this book does not disappoint. I liked the book because it's interesting reading. Greg manages middle school and deals with clueless parents. It's not an action packed book but more of a comedic book. I believe this book is meant for kids and teens. As you would be able to relate to Greg more easier and you probably went through what he is dealing with. The whole series is a must read and this book is not a drop off. However this is not the first book you should read in the series I recommend you start from the first book and work your way to the last book.
