A Fierce and Subtle Poison

I read "A fierce and subtle poison" by Samantha Mabry because the book was a mystery; this book was Mabry's first novel. The message that this book sends to readers is that anything can happen even if it isn't real; it also is about taking chances, making sacrifices & falling in love.

This book is about a legend of a cursed girl named Isabel. They say she has green skin, and grass for hair, and feeds on the poisonous plants that are in her family's Caribbean island garden. A boy named Lucas spends summers with his rich father in Puerto Rico; he grew up hearing stories of the cursed girl. Lucas begins getting letters from Isabel the same day his girlfriend disappears. He turns to her for answers and finds himself entangled with Isabel. Lucas fears that he will not be able to escape his own life, if he becomes too involved.

Personally I love books that have this kind of mystery to it. I found the mystery just in the description of the story in the back of the book. I love how the description pulls you into the story without you even reading the actual book yet. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fiction based books. The story has myths & legends, but also has a type of realistic feel to it. If you like books like these then you should definitely read "A fierce and subtle poison".
