I just recently finished the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson.
Personally this is the first book i've read by her, but she's an award reading
author of her books Fever 1793, and Catalyst as well as five picture books.
This books was wrapped around the main character Melinda doing something to get
a Andy Evans a popular senior busted.
Entering high school a freshman everyone hates her, and her
old friends don't talk to her. She feels the safest way is to be alone tapping
herself into self harm. The only class Melinda passed all year with an A was
art, she felt he pushed her talent out of her. After feeling like the worst day
of her life and the day everyone started hating her would come back to haunt
her she talks to her old best friend Rachel and told her why she did what she
did, and of course she didn't believe her until it happened again. Everyone
tends to feel bad for Melinda and is now showing her
This was an okay book, I felt it got boring half way through
the book. I personally think this is a type of book targeted for girls around
8th and 9th grade just because Melinda is a freshman and when everything
started it was the summer of 8th grade. It's a good book if you read the whole
thing, read Speak and find out what happened that summer and why. :)
