The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboy and Goth Girl

The book I read was “The Astonishing Adventures of Fanboyand Goth Girl” by Barry Lyga. This was the first book I have read by Mr. Lyga I'm not sure how this book compares to his other books like Boy Toy,Game,Hero-Type,Lucky Boy,and After The Red Rain. The story follows a teen boy who is called Fanboy who has never had it good. He's a sophomore and has a secret graphic novel. He has been working on it without telling anyone, but he is convinced that his graphic novel will lead to publication, fame, and most of all a way out of his crappy town and the people in it. Then he meets Goth Girl a.k.a Kyra who shares his his love of comics and hatred of bullies and jocks. The theme of this book is to never give up too quickly.

The fact that someone understands him, he quickly becomes friends with Kyra but Kyra isn't all that interested in friendships. Fanboy’s step dad which he calls the step-fascist  is not that in Fanboy either because Fanboy says that the that he does nothing but drink beer. But then a convention comes up and Fanboy’s favorite comic artist was going to be there, but Fanboy’s mom’s baby shower was that same day and he doesn't want to go. The step-fascist decides to take him to the convention because he doesn't want to go to the baby shower either, and they both get along well. Then when Fanboy went back to school he was talking to the principal and when he walked out of the office he remembered something about what Kyra asked him about a bullet he keeps in his pocket  for comfort. She asked him where could he get another one and she also asked where his step dad kept his guns, the. He remembered that Kyra was trying to attempt suicide. But he finds her and gets her help.

I would totally recommend this book because it really reaches out to people that have this kind of stuff that happens in their life. It's interesting and I makes you wanna keep reading, and if you had to get something done it makes you do things faster just to get back to it. And I love it because it has very deep details on how a character look or feels. I suggest it to everyone, no other book like it!
