The play “A Raisin in the Sun” was written by Lorraine
Hansberry. Lorraine wrote many other play named “Les Blancs” and “The Sign
Brustein’s Window”. The overview of “A Raisin in the Sun” is about a family
,the Youngers, is try to figure out how to spend $10,000 insurance check
between everyone.
“A Raisin in the Sun” is about a poor African-American
family ,the Youngers, living on the southside of Chicago.
The Youngers have been trying to move out the south
side and move to a comfortable home. The Youngers live in a tiny apartment. The
main characters are Beneatha (mama daughter), Walter Lee (mama son and Ruth
husband), Ruth (Walter’s wife), Travis (Walter and Ruth son), and Lena (the
mom). The conflict between the family members of the Youngers family who can't
decide how to spend the $10,000 insurance check. Mama wants to buy a house.
Walter wants to invest on a liquor store. Beneatha wants to use the money to
pay off her tuition. “There isn't there something wrong in a house in a world
where all dreams, good and bad, must depend on the death of a man? As again was
asking Beneatha that question.
I love this play because it shows how African-American
family struggles how to spend them money wisely.
The play also show how Beneatha and Walter didn't give up on
their dreams. This book is written for people who like reading plays and like
to act the plays out. I recommend this book to people who has the spare time to
read it because it have a good beginning, a lot of foreshadowing, and a
detailed ending.
