The book I chose is the Amulet Series by Kazu Kibuishi.
Other books he has written is Amulet: Firelight volume 7, Flight volumes
1-7, and Flight Explorer volumes 1-3. Flight series and Flight Explorer
is an anthology. Which means it's a collection of poems or other pieces
of writing. Amulet is a graphic novel series. The genre is mainly
adventure, action, sacrifices, and responsibilities.
Amulet tells the story of Emily Hayes, a young girl whose
family moves to her great grandfather’s mansion after her tragic father’s
death. Emily, her mom and her brother Navin find themselves in a crazy
situation. Emily is chosen to be in a line of stonekeepers who protect
the mysterious Alien world. Aided by gemstones, that give them
magical powers but also threaten to destroy them. In the Prologue, her tragic
father“ ‘MOM! DAD’S STUCK!!’ (Book 1 Kibuishi 8).” That's when the reader gets
a hint why they moved to their grandfather’s mansion and it meant a sacrifice
was to be made. That night when she wore it it spoke : “ ‘ Emily. Listen carefully.
Your family is in danger. Stay with them. Keep them safe’ (Book 1 Kibuishi
40).” Emily was scared and didn't know what the amulet was talking about
until they heard a weird sound coming from downstairs. Another
great scene is : “ ‘The skin will begin to fall, and a sun will rise again. Get
to know the sun well’ (Book 6 Kibuishi 115).” This textual evidence is a bit
hard to understand but you have to think deeper thoughts. Another scene
that was fascinating was : “ ‘ Algos Island. For Trellis. Find Algos
island...Forgive them...They didn't know ‘ (Book 6 Kibuishi 184).” When
you think about this, it's a bit hard to figure out but you'll start to
understand in book 4 & 5.
I really like this series because it tells a fascinating
story of just a young girl meeting her great grandfather and she becoming a
stonekeeper to help out with this strange Alien world, but I do love tragic
changes and scenes that happen in the story and I like how the bad guy turns
against his father and takes back what is rightfully his. I also like how
they always meet new characters and it just makes the story even better.
I would recommend this book for those who like adventurous and science
fiction. Personally, I thought I wouldn't like it because I don't prefer science
fiction, but it was really interesting. I think most readers would reach
out to this book because it tells a lesson but you also learn new things about
the story every word by word. Even though if you wouldn't prefer this
book , I still think you should read it because it's not like the technical
talk science but it breaks it down and it makes it easier to understand . I
think it's a better way of understanding science fiction. So again , I would
highly recommend this book series for those science fiction lovers!
