I read
Wither, by Lauren Destefano. The first book of her
series, Chemical Garden Trilogy. The second book is Fever, and the third and
last one is “Sever”.
Rhine is a sixteen years old girl, who was kidnapped, and
end up in a Mansion where she'll be marrying a guy she don't know her whole
life. In Rhine’s world, time is gold. Girls are destined to be dead in the age
of twenty, and boys, twenty-five. The Mansion is owned by Vaughn Ashby, a first
generation scientist who's working to find an Antidote for the virus. His son,
Linden Ashby, twenty-one years old will be Rhine’s groom. Rhine, along with
three other girls, will both be married with Linden. Jenna, a eighteen years
old girl who hated Vaughn for she was taken from her loving sisters. Cecily, a
thirteen years old orphan girl who happened to be enjoying her life in the
Mansion, and is loving her new world, especially their husband, Linden.
Although Rhine appreciate everything, and love Linden, but
she was taken away against her will, taken from her twin brother, Rowen. Rowen
is the only family Rhine has. But how will she find Rowen when she is locked in
the Mansion. Worse, Linden is getting in love with Rhine, and favored her. Will
Linden let her go just like that? And Vaughn who will do anything for his son,
Linden. Will he let her escape? Fortunately, Rhine met an attendant guy, Gabriel
who's going to help her. Are they going to succeed? And if they are, is she
still going to find her brother Rowen while the kidnappers are lurking all over
the place hunting for more girls to be sell? Her story in this book is just the
beginning, and there's still more challenges she's going to face along the way.
One conflict in Wither is character vs. society. Are people
going to just accept the fact that they're going to be dead, by the age they
were destined? Or will scientists continue on working to find an antidote? Some
people don't give up, but some already did.
The central idea or theme of the book is also about family.
Rhine finding a way to be with her brother again, Rowen, the only family she
has.
If you love reading Science Fiction, I highly recommend you
read this book as soon as possible. It's fascinating, that when the time you
read this, you'll never want the story to end, that you'll beg for more.
