Not All Black Girls Know How to Eat

The book “Not All Black Girls Know How to Eat” is an autobiography written by author Stephanie Covington Armstrong. Stephanie Covington Armstrong has a really strong message in this book about how mental illnesses have an impact on a person such as eating disorders. This book takes you on a journey and lets you see the perspective of someone who struggles with an eating disorder.

In the story Stephanie takes you through her childhood and you start to understand how her disorder first began. She grew up poor, hungry, went to foster care, she was sexually abused, and her insecurities often taking over. In this very moving story Stephanie describes her struggle as a black woman going through an eating disorder what is often portrayed as something black woman don’t usually go through. Stephanie wrote this book to prove that opinion wrong.

I highly recommend people to read this book. The book is amazing and has a very positive message. This book always has those particular turning points that makes you want to continue reading to see if the author will overcome her disorder and to see what happens next.

  1. After reading this book review, I'm very interested in the author and her story. The book sounds intriguing because it's defying a stereotype. I love reading about stuff that is different then the usual. This book somewhat reminds me of "Speak" because they are both about a girl who is struggling to be themselves. I will be looking for this book very soon.
