Book Review: The Great Gatsby
Author: F. Scott
Fitzgerald
The Great Gatsby is a book about love, survival, wealth and determination.
Each character had a heart that was unwilling to give up. Tom Buchannan, for
example, doesn’t back down on his rude beliefs on sex roles, race, and arrogant
attitude. Turning the light on Jay Gatsby, he had a dire need to win back Daisy
Buchannan. Everything Gatsby does was for her.
I enjoyed learning about the needs and wants everyone had in
the novel. Seeing how the characters react to certain things and events was
interesting. Gatsby’s love versus Tom’s love Daisy was easy to determine which
was more genuine.
In the end, I didn’t like how the story concluded. Daisy’s
final decision and Gatsby death was sad and drastic to me. Nick being the only
person showing up at Jay’s funeral was shocking. It proved how superficial the
people he surrounded himself were.
My favorite parts were the giant parties, love tangles, and unassuming
twists. The excitement in the celebrations were wild, the tangles, unexpected,
and twists, amazing. Honestly, I found it fascinating that when Gatsby threw
parties, they had no reason to everyone else. But to him, they were only to
attract Daisy.
