Vladimir Tod: Eighth Grade Bites, written by Heather Brewer,
is the first installment in a five book series. The three main characters of
this book are Vlad, His Aunt Nelly, and his best friend Henry. Vladimir Tod,
the main character, is a teenage boy who is half vampire and struggles with not
only being an outcast in eighth grade, but with his vampire urges. Vlad lives
with his aunt Nelly, after his parents died in a house fire when he was
younger. Henry is Vlad’s best friend; Whom Vlad became friends with after
biting him in Kindergarten. Vlad, Nelly,
and Henry are the three main characters because they are the most reoccurring
characters in the book.
Vladimir was born a vampire. Usually Vampires are bitten in
order for them to change. Vlad has a mother who is a normal human, although his
dad is a vampire. They lived a happy life, his mother knew her husband was a
vampire, but that did not matter to her. She loved him for him, not his dark
side. Vlad grew up scared because people
could find out his secret. Until
Vladimir met his best friend Henry, things were very shallow for him. Henry was
the most popular boy in school. Everything Vlad did, Henry did better. This
book specifically details Vladimir’s eighth grade year. He hated every minute
of it. Especially knowing, that one of his teachers had suspicion for
Vlad. His vampire secret could not be
revealed.
This book was great; every sentence had a new twist to
it. Knowing that the action does no stop
for another four books, make me excited to read the next one. The thrill of a
running vampire makes the book even better.
I loved it and give it a 9/10. I
hope you read this book to see how Vlad does in his future of middle school and
high school.
