Among the Hidden

The book “Among the Hidden” was written by Margaret Peterson Haddix.  Margaret has written other shadow children books, I really love the books because they are the continence of Among the Hidden. The books are mostly about a boy named Luke Garner and other third children born in their families who are trying to survive from the population police. The theme of this book is Survival and standing up for what you think is right.

Among the Hidden is about a boy named Luke Garner who is one of the shadow children. A shadow child is a third born child in the family who is forbidden by the population police. All his life Luke had to hide in fear because if the population police were to catch him he would have been killed, he had never been to school or had any friends. There is a housing development replacing the woods next to the Garner’s family house so now Luke is not allowed outside the house anymore because of that. One day Luke sees a girl in the window next door to them which he knows there is already two children living there, he finally meets the girl and her name is Jen who is also a third child just like him. Jen is willing to risk anything to come out of the shadows and live a normal life like the other kids.  Luke finally gets to go to a school of all boys when he took the identity of a boy named Lee who just died.

I would recommend the book “Among the Hidden” to anyone who likes books that keeps you in suspense because when I read this book I kept thinking what will happen next and I just couldn’t put the book down. If you don’t like the book than just get a different book that you like best.
