The Lost Boy

The title of my book is The Lost Boy by Dave Pelzer who has also written A Child Called It. The Lost Boy is the sequel to A Child Called It, explaining more about his devastating childhood. Dave was treated differently than how his brothers were. Teachers, students and those he thought were his friends all had curiosity about the bruises he had and rips in his clothes. The theme of this book is to never be scared to stand up for yourself when you’re in danger or being harmed.

This story is about a young boy who gets tortured by his mother. She does things to him that most of us could never imagine. Alcohol has a lot to do with his mother’s actions. The brothers never got treated like that or forced to do things. Dave always asked himself “Why me?”

The main characters in this story are Dave, his mother, father, brothers, foster families and people who helped him through his terrible journey. Dave faces the conflict of fear from his mother who is very intimidating and wondering when his life will be normal.

“I tried to look at the judge. I swallowed hard once more before I started to deliver my rehearsed line about how I had lied and that I had indeed caused all the problems at home and that Mother had never abused me. From the corner of my right eye I could see Mother’s eyes locked on to me” (Pelzer 71).

This quote shows that he wants to save his mother from being in trouble even though she’s hurt him in the worst ways. The fear his mother puts on him is very strong.

I absolutely loved this book because it actually happened and it shows that no matter what you’re put through, you can get out of it. I encourage everyone to read The Lost Boy and A Child Called It. They teach life lessons about kids who struggle to grow up and they show how much you’re difference in someone’s life can mean.
